PSAL baseball round-up: Led by Pallero's gem, New Utrecht qualifies for postseason

Joseph Pallero pitched New Utrecht into the PSAL Class A playoffs, allowing just five hits and striking out six in an 8-2 victory over FDR in a Brooklyn A West tiebreaker for third place. The top three teams in each division qualify for the playoffs.

He also had an RBI and scored two runs, Robert Delaney added two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs and Anthony Ramos had three hits for the Utes (10-7). FDR is 9-8.

“Today, the kid stepped up big,” New Utrecht coach said of Pallero. “He got ahead, pitched to contact. They put the ball in play and we made every play.”

Stuyvesant 4, Bayard Rustin 3: Nicholas Rozar had two hits, an RBI and scored a run and Nicholas Gallo struck out for seven to pick up the win for Stuyvesant (11-5) in Manhattan A West. Bayard Rustin is 7-7.

Long Island City 5, Forest Hills 2: Freddy Liniauo had three RBIs and Joshua Levy scored twice for LIC (8-0) in Queens A West. Forest Hills is 8-8 in Queens A East.

George Washington 7, Stuyvesant 2: Alibay Barkley drove in two runs, Mike Antonio scored twice and Yael Regalado struck out nine in 6 1/3 innings pitched for George Washington (14-2) in Manhattan A East.

Madison 4, Sheepshead Bay 1: Anthony Frangello had three hits and two RBIs and Joseph Hecker had two hits and scored a run for Madison (13-3) in Brooklyn A East. Sheepshead Bay is 7-9.

Newtown 6, Bushwick 0: Franklyn Ramirez tossed a no-hitter and struck out 13, Remmery Richiez had two RBIs and Robert Molina and Rodney Fernandez each scored two runs for Newtown (14-2), which clinched the Queens A Mid-West crown. Bushwick is 4-11.

Monroe 10, Walton 6: Nelson Arroyo, Kevin Toribio and Joseph Gerena each had two RBIs and Melvin Garcia had two hits and scored two runs for Monroe (13-2) in Bronx A East. Walton is 9-7.

Port Richmond 6, Petrides 5: David Carreon had two hits and two RBIs and Chris Reyes scored twice for Port Richmond (4-14) in Staten Island A. Petrides is 4-13.

CLASS B

A.P. Randolph 17, Hunter 6:
Joelvis Maria and John Paulino each had three RBIs and Clifort Betances scored three runs for A.P. Randolph (10-2), who also beat Hunter, 10-3, in the second game of the doubleheader, in Manhattan B North. Hunter is 6-5.

Robert F. Kennedy 12, Townsend Harris 0: Jordan Wiener struck out eight and allowed just one hit, Michael Ginshinan had two hits and two RBIs and Romine Mohammed tripled three times and scored three runs for Robert F. Kennedy (14-1) in Queens B Central. Townsend Harris is 9-5.  

Lab Museum 12, Chelsea 4: Alan Solitar tripled, doubled and drove in four runs, Nelson Vergara had three RBIs and Ozzie Berrios struck out 10 for Lab Museum (8-3) in Manhattan B South. Chelsea is 5-8.

Erasmus Hall 7, Boys & Girls 1:
Roderick Samuels had two RBIs, Randy Rios struck out 10 in a complete-game effort and Justin Johnson doubled twice and scored two runs for Erasmus Hall (9-6) in Brooklyn B Central. Boys & Girls is 9-7.

Cobble Hill 8, Robeson 7: George Mejia had two RBIs, Fredrick Wright stole five bases, had three hits and scored three runs and Dwayne Howington scored twice for Cobble Hill (8-8) in Brooklyn B North. Robeson is 8-7 in Brooklyn B Central.

Washington Irving 14, Seward Park 4:
Joey Urena had three hits and four RBIs, Engel Nunez scored twice and Randy Romero had two hits and four RBIs for Washington Irving (8-6), who also beat Seward Park, 8-4, in the second game of a doubleheader, in Manhattan B South. Seward Park is 5-8.
