PSAL baseball round-up: Francis Lewis stages huge rally to knock off Edison
By FiveBoroSports.com April 30, 2009Francis Lewis scored 20 unanswered runs, rallying from a nine-run deficit to upend Thomas Edison, 20-11, in Queens A East baseball action Thursday afternoon.
Jesse Pau, Jonathan Bobea, David Torres and Jeremy Rodriguez had two hits apiece and Crisandry Javier doubled in two runs as Sean Hidalgo picked up the win in relief for Francis Lewis, who improved to 8-2. Thomas Edison is 0-9.
“Our team did a great job as a team of staying together and our guys showed a ton of fight,” Francis Lewis coach Ian Millman said. “They never got down on themselves and pulled out a memorable victory. We can use this as a rallying point for the rest of the season. I’m proud to be part of such a remarkable comeback.”
Tottenville 5, Wagner 2: Nick Sessa tossed a complete-game three-hitter, struck out six and didn’t allow any earned runs, Zach Granite homered, had four hits and three RBIs and Gil Mendoza scored twice for Tottenville (8-0) in Staten Island A. Wagner is 8-3.
Forest Hills 6, Aviation 0: Jesse Friedman tossed a no-hitter, struck out 10 and had four hits, Leutrim Hoxha drove in three runs and Pedro Acosta scored twice for Forest Hills (5-5) in Queens A East. Aviation is 1-7.
Beach Channel 10, Newtown 8: Anthony Martinez had three RBIs, Brandon Martinez and Ian Keshwar each drove in two runs and Khalil Bratton struck out 10 in seven innings and had three hits and scored three runs for Beach Channel (2-6) in Queens A Mid-West. Newtown is 8-2.
Walton 11, Jane Addams 4: Johnny Celedonio struck out six and allowed two earned runs in six innings, Jose Cruz doubled, had two RBIs and scored twice and Hilden Rivas tripled and scored two runs for Walton (6-3) in Bronx A East. Jane Addams has lost four in a row, falling to 4-5 in Bronx A West.
Bayard Rustin 9, Manhattan Bridges 3: Gerson Vicente went 6 1/3 with four strikeouts for the win, Mike Ovalle Yoy had two RBIs and Justin Corporan scored twice for Bayard Rustin (5-4) in Manhattan A East. Manhattan Bridges is 0-10 in Manhattan A West.
Stuyvesant 5, FDA 3: Scott Chiusano had two RBIs and Nolan Becker scored a run and drove in one for Stuyvesant (7-2) in Manhattan A West. FDA is 4-6 in Manhattan A East.
George Washington 14, Environmental Studies 4: Nelson Rodriguez had three RBIs, John Estrella and Miguel Nunez each had two RBIs and Francisco Santana picked up his second win for George Washington (9-0) in Manhattan A East. Environmental Studies is 6-4 in Manhattan A West.
FDR 11, Canarsie 1: Chris Cheedie got his first win on the mound, Beau Scarantino had four RBIs and Frankie Vitale Marano, Pedro Cepeda and Ozgur Laopanich each drove in two runs for FDR (7-5) in Brooklyn A West. Canarsie is 1-9 in Brooklyn A East.

Martin Van Buren 9, John Bowne 8: German Garcia drove in two runs and had three hits and Edgar LeBron scored three runs and added four hits for Martin Van Buren (7-4) in Queens B South. David Copercini paced John Bowne (3-7, Queens B North) with a home run and four RBIs.
