PSAL baseball round-up: Monroe improved to 7-0 as Guerrero stifles Gompers
By FiveBoroSports.com April 25, 2009Abel Guerrero picked up his third win of the year, going 5 2/3 and allowing just one earned run on five hits and striking out seven, as Monroe held off Gompers, 5-4, in Bronx Class A baseball crossover action Saturday morning.
Rikeltin Batista had three RBIs and two hits, Elias Todman doubled and scored twice and Joseph Gerena and Carlos Sanchez each tallied an RBI for the Eagles, who improved to 7-0 in Bronx A East. Gompers fell to 4-2 in Bronx A West.
Susan Wagner 6, Curtis 2: Chris Bitetto, Mike Pellicano, Jared Croce and James Israilov each had an RBI in a four-run 11th as Wagner improved to 7-1 in Staten Island A. Curtis fell to 5-5.
Cardozo 14, Lane 0: Chris Estrada struck out nine and allowed three hits, Patrick Luk had three RBIs, Antonio Zorrilla and Derek Errigo each drove in two and Jamal Vargas scored three runs and had two hits for Cardozo (6-0) in Queens A East. Lane is 1-6 in Queens A Mid-West.
Grand St. Campus 3, Francis Lewis 1: Jonathan Bobea allowed two earned runs in six innings and struck out 13 and David Torres scored a run for Francis Lewis (6-2) in Queens A East. Grand St. Campus improved to 7-0 in Queens A West.
Stuyvesant 10, Manhattan Bridges 0: Nicholas Rozar tossed a six-inning complete-game, allowed four hits and struck out three, Nolan Becker tripled twice, had three RBIs and scored twice and Zachary Karson scored two runs for Stuyvesant (6-1) in Manhattan A West. Manhattan Bridges is 0-6.
Columbus 16, Stevenson 2: Leandro Cruz homered and drove in five runs, Carlos Dipre had two hits and two RBIs and Jason Rivera got his first win of the year and struck out nine for Columbus (1-5) in Bronx A West. Stevenson is 0-8 in Bronx A East.
John F. Kennedy 5, Morris 3: Bennie Fair struck out 10 in six four-hit innings, Pedro Taveras had two RBIs and scored a run and Roberto Cabral and Brynner Castillo each added an RBI for Kennedy (7-1) in Bronx A West. Morris is 1-7 in Bronx A East.
CLASS B
Chelsea 8, Washington Irving 6: Juan Lluveres went 2-for-4, scored two runs, drove in two runs and had stolen bases, Adrian Pichardo added two RBIs and two runs scored and Henry Harris struck out six in 2 2/3 innings of relief for Chelsea (3-1) in Manhattan B South. Washington Irving is 3-4.
