PSAL baseball round-up: Stuyvesant improves to 2-0 as Becker dominates
By Zachary Braziller April 1, 2009Nolan Becker struck out 12 in five shutout innings to pick up his second win as Stuyvesant routed Environmental Studies, 8-1, in Manhattan A West baseball. He also went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI.
Nick Gallo scored three runs and Lionel Jensen homered for the Hitmen (2-0), who led 6-0 after two innings. Environmental Studies, whose only run was scored by pitcher Julio Casiano in the seventh inning, fell to 2-1.
Grace Dodge 2, Roosevelt 0: Jeffrin Gutierrez threw five shutout innings, German Polanco and Leuri Rivas each drove in a run for Grace Dodge (3-1) in Bronx B North. Roosevelt is 0-4.
Manhattan Center 11, Bayard Rustin 1: George Cruz III struck out eight over six innings for his first win, Lucas Almonte was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and Karriem Rhode had three RBI and scored three times for Manhattan Center (1-3) in Manhattan A East. Bayard Rustin fell to 1-3.
George Washington 17, FDA 1: Jordan Lopez was 2-for-3 with five RBI and Jordan Polanco, Mike Antonio, John Estrella and Miguel Nunez each added two RBI for George Washington (4-0) in Manhattan A East. FDA is 2-2.
Monroe 16, Stevenson 0: Nate Cruz picked up his first win with five shutout innings, Henry Cartagena went 2-for-3, scored twice, homered and drove in six runs and Nelson Arroyo and Melvin Garcia each scored three times for Monroe (3-0) in Bronx A East. Stevenson is 0-3.
Hunter College 7, Richard Green 3: Michael Scott got his first win with two innings of one-hit relief, Kyle Waney drove in two runs and Elliot Comite scored twice for Hunter (3-0) in Manhattan B North. Richard Green is 0-3.
Curtis 5, Port Richmond 4: Chris Ryan picked up the win in relief, Daniel Mulvaney drove in two runs and scored once and Kevin Duffy added three hits and an RBI for Curtis (3-2) in Staten Island A. Port Richmond, which got two RBI from Joe Cunningham, fell to 0-3.
Tottenville 7, Petrides 0: Jonathan Silva threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings, Tom Cavallino drove in two runs for Tottenville (1-0) in Staten Island A.
Wagner 7, New Dorp 6: Stephen Ragaglia picked up his first win with six innings of work, Michael Savoca went 2-for-4 with three RBI and James Israilov scored twice for Wagner (4-0) in Staten Island A. New Dorp is 2-3.
